The President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, has declared that on Saturday, April 5, a protest will take place at Mala plaža instead of the traditional local parliament session marking the Day of the Municipality.

“Considering everything that has transpired regarding the presumed investments and development of Ulcinj, we are not in a celebratory mood. It’s time to raise our voices and unite in a powerful protest to defend Ulcinj from decisions being made without our input or acknowledgment of your opinions,” Nimanbegu communicated in a video message to the public.

He mentioned that all political parties in Ulcinj have agreed that the Municipal Assembly’s ceremonial session will be transformed into a protest event.

“Thus, I invite everyone to gather on Saturday at noon at Mala plaža, demonstrating to the Government that if they refuse to heed the voices of 33 councilors, we, as thousands of citizens, are here to convey our messages. These messages are clear: we support investments and development, but we insist that such development is sustainable and aligned with our plans, not dictated by others. We seek transparency and accountability from those making decisions about us, without our consent. We aim for Ulcinj to maintain its identity and importance, for Solana to remain Europe’s key habitat for birds, and for our olive groves to be the lushest and most beautiful area in the Mediterranean. We aspire for Ulcinj to be the nurturing ground for our children, both now and in the future. Celebrations and children’s concerts will occur, as everything we do is for our children,” stated Nimanbegu.

He emphasized that Ulcinj is a historic city, known for its hospitality, and a gem of the Mediterranean that has “bravely endured for 2,500 years.”

“We assert that the brave one is someone who has many allies. Therefore, I urge everyone who has supported us from the start, along with friends and lovers of Ulcinj, no matter where you are, to join us on Saturday and stand with us to ensure Ulcinj remains your cherished friend and our invaluable cradle,” the Mayor concluded.

His office announced that Nimanbegu will hold a press conference tomorrow at noon in the Municipality building, where he will be joined by representatives from other political parties.
