We Didn’t Earn the World Cup: Fueled by Fan Energy and Community Respect as We Look Forward to the Next Major Competition
Following two European championships and one world championship, the “lions” will be absent from the major competition next January…
The Montenegrin handball players were unable to qualify for the World Championship after 120 minutes of play, demonstrating that they are currently not on par with Italy, a national team that has not been in the spotlight since 1998.
“We didn’t earn the right to go to the World Cup, and we won’t,” stated goalkeeper Nebojša Simić with his usual realism and honesty.
Despite the disappointing outcome, the “lions” received applause from the packed “Morača” arena at the end.
“Perhaps we didn’t deserve the audience’s support for 60 minutes and their songs with us after the defeat, but we felt it,” Simić shared on Instagram.
One of the most experienced and skilled players on the national team believes that better days are ahead…
“I hope that we can harness that energy and the respect of our fans to return to our former glory and secure a place in the next championship,” emphasized the Montenegrin goalkeeper before concluding.
“Representing our country has always been, and will always be, a great honor for every true athlete.”
