“Brother Assaulted by Journalists: Ana Raičković’s ‘Victory’ and the Broken Shifferhish Incident – News”
The Montenegrin newspaper “Victory,” edited by Ana Račković, has reported a break-in, prompting an investigation to identify the individual responsible for damaging her vehicle.
According to police confirmation, Ana Račković notified authorities that someone had vandalized her car.
The police are investigating whether this incident is linked to an attack on her sister and family members on November 10th in Podgorica.
Two suspects in the attack on the Montenegrin newspaper, Zoran Bećirović and Mladen Mijatović, are currently in custody, while Ljubiša Dukić has been released, as determined by the Criminal Council of the Basic Court in Podgorica.
Račković was verbally and physically assaulted on the evening of September 10th in front of a restaurant in Podgorica, and her son and fiancé were also attacked when they attempted to assist her.
The highest officials in Montenegro have strongly condemned this assault and called for an urgent investigation and punishment for the attackers.
As the editor of the crime section in “Victory,” Račković believes the attack was motivated by her investigative reporting about certain individuals.
The U.S. State Department has urged Montenegrin authorities to thoroughly investigate the assault on Račković.
“The U.S. government condemns threats and mistreatment of journalists. No media outlet should tolerate such incidents,” stated a spokesperson in response to a request for comment from Voice of America regarding the attack on the Montenegrin journalist.
