Montenegro and Croatia Initiate Negotiations Following Dispute: Key Issues Include Adriatic Shipping, Coating, and Compensation – News

Montenegro and Croatia are set to commence discussions today on several unresolved matters, including the ownership of the Adriatic training ship and the land border on Prevlaka.

The initial round of talks, as reported by News based on unofficial information from the Government in Podgorica, will take place at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb.

On January 27, State Secretaries will begin negotiations, as announced by Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, who visited Montenegro earlier this month.

During his visit, he reiterated that the Croatian government maintains that the Jadran training ship rightfully belongs to Croatia, that the land border on Prevlaka is indisputable, and that maritime boundaries will be settled bilaterally. The discussions will also cover issues related to detainees, the succession of military assets, and other outstanding matters.

These consultations come amidst strained relations, particularly following Zagreb’s blockage of the closure of Chapter 31 in Montenegro’s EU accession talks, a situation exacerbated by the passage of the Jasenovac resolution in the Assembly last July.
