After enduring 17 consecutive defeats, the Mornar basketball team finally clinched a victory in the AdmiralBet ABA League, triumphing over Krka in Bar with a score of 78:70 in the 25th round.
This marked Mornar’s second win in the regional competition, yet they remain in a precarious position, trailing Krka and Cibona by two victories, along with a less favorable head-to-head record against both teams.
“We’ve finally reached this day. It’s unfortunate that it comes with a bit of dark humor, but that’s the reality. After a truly challenging season, this victory feels a bit delayed. Every win counts, especially given our current predicament. I’m thrilled for the players and extend my heartfelt congratulations,” expressed Mornar coach Mihailo Pavićević following the match.
Pavićević was unable to rely on Jamari Smith.
“The fewer players we have, the better we perform. Earlier today, I received a message from Smith about his knee injury, which kept him out of the game. We lost yet another player, but the team gave perhaps more than what they were capable of. The young players stepped up, and with sheer determination and effort, we elevated our defensive level, which ultimately led to our victory,” commented the Mornar coach.
While the Barani find themselves in a tough situation, they are still holding onto hope.
“There are five rounds remaining, and we will not back down. Hope is the last thing to fade away. I’m pleased that we’ve played two games in a row very well, and for the most part, we acted with great intelligence. Everyone played their part, but Rogić led the offense with wisdom,” stressed Pavićević.
Mornar’s upcoming matches include games against FMP, Dubai, Zadar, Split, and Igokea.
