Cetinje Shines with All Three Stars

Peak Year of Success – Jabučanin, Photo: BSCG/Miloš Dedić

This year has been significant for Montenegrin Olympic sports, especially in boxing. After over twenty years, Montenegro has secured a European senior medal in men’s boxing, along with several valuable medals from various international championships and competitions.

The accomplishments in boxing, paired with the successful organization of major events like the World Cup and the World Youth Championship in Budva, have also brought recognition to the top Montenegrin referee.

Blažo Jabučanin from Cetinje achieved remarkable success this year, earning the prestigious title of boxing referee and the chance to officiate at the Olympic Games and World Championship finals in 2024.

“I take pride in this year and my journey thus far. I was honored as the top referee at the ‘Belgrade Winner’, received accolades from the World Federation to officiate at the World Cup, World Youth Championship, and European Senior Championship… and I made it onto the list of the 35 best boxing referees globally,” Jabučanin shared with “Vijesti”.

This year, he was recognized by the Boxing Association as the finest referee in Montenegro.

“My gratitude goes to the Association for their recognition and support, and I take pride in reaching a level where I was nominated by the World Federation for competitions. Since childhood, sports, particularly boxing, have been my passion. My uncle, Sreten Jabučanin, was a notable boxing referee at the Olympics, five world championships, and eight European championships; my father is a supervisor in boxing, and I am pursuing a PhD in Physical Education. Despite my love for sports in general, boxing holds a special place in my heart,” Jabučanin expressed.

In Montenegro, only three referees have attained two stars, with two others each…

“Achieving this level requires immense dedication, studying, attending seminars, gaining education, and, of course, experience. It’s all about the decisions made during matches and the conduct of the referee. After successfully completing my duties at two prestigious competitions this year, my three silver stars transformed into gold, reaching the highest level of officiating. Competing at major events allows one to witness the incredible skills of elite fighters. These competitions present a platform for sharing experiences, learning, and forging friendships, and I believe I made a fantastic choice,” Jabučanin concluded.
