The ŽKK Budućnost Bemax women’s basketball team is set to face off against Montana in the semi-final of the WABA League final tournament tomorrow in Celje.

During the league stage, the Podgorica side won both encounters, with scores of 75:68 in Podgorica and 75:60 in Montana.

Coach Petar Stojanović expressed his satisfaction with Budućnost reaching the finals and being part of this regional showcase.

He believes that this year’s final tournament promises to be the highest quality event in recent years.

“We have four teams that have rightfully made it to the final tournament, making it undeniably exciting,” Stojanović stated at a joint press conference.

He acknowledged that Montana is a formidable team, well-organized and strong in all positions.

“We’re in for 40 minutes of intense competition. If we succeed and make it to the final, it will be a testament to our dedication with a young team. This season, we’ve given several young players significant roles, and I just want us to enjoy the tournament and see what we are capable of,” Stojanović added.

The young coach from Cetinje, who led his team to victory in the WABA U17 League three years ago, is making his debut in the senior WABA League finals, just like his counterpart from Montana, Preslav Pešev.

Pešev remarked that the Bulgarian team respects Budućnost and understands the challenge ahead.

“All teams in the Final Four have previously won the title and have very experienced rosters and coaches, so perhaps the pressure is slightly less on us. However, we certainly see our opportunity. It won’t be easy, but we’re hopeful about reaching the finals,” the Montana coach commented.

The match featuring the Montenegrin and Bulgarian teams will commence at 15:30.

The second semi-final will see Celje taking on Beroe at 18:00.

The team from Stara Zagora has claimed the championship title twice, including a win in Celje back in 2019.

Meanwhile, Celje aims to secure its sixth title and solidify its dominance in the region.

Celje has previously hosted the final tournament twice (in 2015 and 2019) but has yet to win the trophy on its home turf.

Celebrating three decades of existence, they aspire to take that extra step this time.

The matchup between Cinkarna Celje and Beroe is slated for 18:00.

On Sunday, the third-place match will kick off at 14:30, with the finals scheduled for 17:00.
