Budva Set to Receive a €237 Million Bypass

This year’s budget will include the construction of a bypass around Budva as part of a proposed expressway along the Montenegrin coastline, which will be approved through a technical rebalancing after the recent Cabinet reshuffle. A public tender for the nine-kilometre stretch—from Markovići to Lastva Grbaljska—is anticipated to be issued by the year’s end.

This segment marks the initial phase of a contemporary coastal roadway that will feature eight bridges totaling 1.74 kilometres in length and two tunnels extending over 3.98 kilometres. The project is grounded in a conceptual design created by Monteput as part of Montenegro’s Spatial Plan.

The investment for this endeavor is estimated at €237 million, including VAT, with land expropriation costs projected to be an additional €20 million. Funding will come from the capital budget, and Monteput will oversee the project’s execution.

The bypass will link the main roads from Podgorica to Budva and from Budva to Tivat, effectively redirecting transit traffic away from the urban center of Budva. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, lower pollution levels, enhance road safety, and enrich the experience for tourists.

Through this strategic infrastructure initiative, Montenegro is taking a significant stride towards enhancing transportation connectivity and promoting the long-term development of tourism and the economy.
