Prioritizing the development of natural resources is essential for a responsible economic policy, as stated by the Minister of Mining, Oil and Gas and Coordinator of the Ministry of Energy, Admir Šahmanović. He visited the Municipality of Berane today to discuss local development plans and projects with its President, Đolo Lutovac. “This marks the first official visit from a government representative following the establishment of the new local government in Berane, which further enhances coordination between local and state administrations,” the announcement indicated.

Lutovac underscored the significance of this visit in relation to future investment endeavors.

“Šahmanović’s visit is the inaugural visit from a government official since the new local government was formed, signaling an important message and providing an added incentive for us to focus on the development and investment potential in the Municipality of Berane. The local administration is fully prepared to support all initiatives aimed at opening new economic opportunities,” stated Lutovac.

The discussion centered around the potential for reviving the brown coal mine, which has been inactive for several years despite having considerable reserves of this energy resource and attracting investor interest.

However, no tangible steps have yet been taken to move this process forward.

At Šahmanović’s request, the owner of the brown coal mine was also present at the meeting to evaluate the current situation and the company’s business plans.

Šahmanović remarked that a responsible government must effectively manage its resources.

“Our duty is to conduct a thorough assessment of the current status, explore all opportunities, and collaborate with the local government to establish a roadmap for the subsequent actions needed to create conditions for the revival of this crucial economic facility. The Ministry will act as a supportive partner in all stages of this initiative,” Šahmanović added.

By the end of the meeting, it was agreed that local government services and the relevant ministry would enhance their collaboration in the near future to facilitate the concrete execution of planned activities, particularly concerning the mining and energy sectors.
