A thrilling encounter unfolded at the Pierre Moreau Stadium in Lille, where the visitors, Borussia Dortmund, made a comeback to win 2-1, earning a spot against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the European championship.
The match kicked off splendidly for the home side, with Jonathan David netting a fortuitous goal in the fifth minute. Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Westfalen, the atmosphere in the Lille stadium was electric.
The ball slipped between the legs of two Dortmund defenders and past the bewildered goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
However, the visitors ramped up their offensive efforts, and despite two goal-line clearances, they were unable to score before halftime.
In the second half, both teams opened up the game, but Borussia benefitted from their greater experience and a stroke of luck. Emre Can confidently converted a penalty in the 54th minute, and when the home side faltered midway through the second half, Maksimilijan Bayer seized the opportunity to score and give Dortmund the lead.
The home team’s last-ditch efforts fell short despite David’s excellent chance, which ended up hitting Kobel instead of finding the net.
