Artificial Snow Could Be Years Off

A significant issue during the snowmaking initiative at the state-managed Kolašin 1600 Ski Center has been identified as the absence of technical documentation for a crucial phase, according to the vice president of Kolašin Municipality. Vasilije Ivanović

The snowmaking endeavor, which includes the development of artificial reservoirs and the acquisition of equipment, currently lacks the required official technical documentation, leading him to assert that “the process could be prolonged for years.”

Ivanović pointed out that “the K7 cable car pillar was compromised back in April, with an inspection only occurring in November, rendering the cable car out of service during the season.”

Similarly, Ivanović noted issues with the “Tanjir” and “Sidro” ski lifts, which, despite being finished in September, were only activated in February.

The Municipality of Kolašin, as stated by Ivanović on Facebook, has scheduled a meeting with relevant institutions and companies to evaluate the existing circumstances and explore solutions to the present challenges.

“The municipality expresses gratitude to the management of the Kolašin 1600 Ski Center and all staff members, whose dedication allowed the postponement of this year’s ski season in spite of the obstacles encountered… The Municipality of Kolašin has consistently been a supportive partner to the Ski Resorts of Montenegro and the state, and is actively engaged in addressing these issues. We are prepared to extend all our resources to enhance the operational capabilities of the ski resort,” Ivanović remarked.

Additionally, he raised significant concerns regarding the performance of “certain engineering teams at the Ski Resort,” alleging their disinterest in advancing Ski Center 1600 while they appear to favor the growth of other ski resorts in the region.

“During the meeting, we plan to clearly communicate our stance regarding the future direction for the development of the ski resort and outline the resources we are willing to offer. The Municipality of Kolašin is committed to fostering enhanced conditions for the tourist season and the sustainable development of the local community through collaboration with all pertinent entities, particularly with the Ministry of Tourism,” he concluded.
