The partnership between Montenegro and UNDP has been very fruitful, leading to the execution of successful initiatives.

This was highlighted during a meeting in New York between Tourism Minister Simonida Kordić and UNDP Deputy Head Ivana Živković.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Kordić indicated that the country is prepared to pursue this collaboration further, recognizing its commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of resources that attract tourists.

“Tourist preferences and market trends are shifting significantly, but I believe we are well-positioned as a nation to meet these demands,” Kordić stated.

She also pointed out that the southern region of Montenegro is highly appealing to visitors, but that efforts must be made to adopt a more balanced approach that provides opportunities for both the northern and central regions.

UNDP remarked that sustainable tourism is a crucial component of their agenda and expressed satisfaction with Montenegro’s progress on its journey towards EU integration.

Živković commented that while Montenegro benefits from a strong geographical location, it must enhance its transportation links.

She noted that UNDP advocates for the expansion of rural tourism and has several effective examples that Montenegro can follow.

“We also encourage you to leverage EU funds to enhance this sector,” said Živković.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that Kordić met with stakeholders and received positive signals from Brussels regarding EU accession, which is expected to have beneficial repercussions for the tourism industry.

She assessed that Montenegro possesses great potential for the growth of gastro tourism, featuring authentic organic cuisine.
