Applause, tears, songs, food, beverages, and massages—everything was organized by the Belgrade students who are staging a blockade, along with the supportive citizens on Terazije, to warmly greet their peers arriving from other Serbian cities with a red carpet and medals ahead of the mass protest planned for tomorrow in the capital of neighboring Serbia.

Motorcyclists and cyclists from various regions of Serbia who made their way to central Belgrade were treated similarly.

Several faculties in Belgrade are prepared to host their fellow students from other areas, and a “Vijesti” journalist visited the gathering spots outside the law and architecture faculties.

As they shared unofficially, this isn’t the optimal time for media statements, but all eyes are on the students who have walked a long distance to join them in the fight for a brighter future.

Messages of support for both students and veterans were visibly displayed at the gates. While the boulevards leading to Terazije were closed, they were bustling with citizens who came out to greet their compatriots from various regions.

Meanwhile, the guards protecting the “students who wish to learn” were replaced by police gendarmes at the entrance to Pioneer Park, where the students are camping. Citizens continue to gather around and in front of the park’s entrance, urging them to leave.

Close by, bikers arriving from different parts of Serbia rode past the National Assembly of Serbia in support of the protesting students, aiming to drown out the sounds of the sirens from the tractors stationed near Pioneer Park.

On November 1, 2024, 15 individuals lost their lives in the collapse of a reconstructed canopy at a railway station in Novi Sad.

In the aftermath, students across Serbia initiated blockades at faculties and universities, demanding accountability for the incident. One of their key requests was the release of all documents related to the canopy’s reconstruction.

This evening, global media outlets are covering the students’ arrival for the protest in Belgrade.

Reuters, The Times, and The Sunday Times are broadcasting the students’ welcome live on their respective YouTube channels.
