The Mornar basketball team is facing a tough battle to avoid finishing in last place in the AdmiralBet ABA League as the season progresses.
After 24 matches, the Barani team has secured only one victory, and in their last game, they came very close to achieving an upset against Partizan in Belgrade. Mornar posed a challenge to Partizan, who barely managed to maintain their lead in the final moments, securing the win with a score of 89:84.
Srđa Bulatović delivered an impressive performance against Partizan, ending the game with 17 points and an outstanding shooting record of 5/6 from beyond the arc.
“Competing in the ‘Arena’ against a team like Partizan is an incredible feeling. We know we’re up against one of the greatest European coaches of all time, and they have experienced players in every position. My individual success is really a reflection of the support from my teammates and Coach Pavićević for providing me with the playing time. Without our collective effort, we certainly wouldn’t have managed to challenge a team like Partizan,” Bulatović shared in an interview with Meridiansport.
Bulatović has been a member of Mornar for three years and acknowledges the difficulty of waiting for his opportunity to play.
“It’s certainly challenging, but that’s part of being a professional athlete. I’m happy to have received the chance, and I’ve done my best to take full advantage of it.”
He emphasizes that the team environment is positive, and he maintains good relationships with all his teammates outside of basketball.
“It’s hard to highlight any one person because there’s such a familial and friendly atmosphere within Mornar. We all socialize outside of practice; however, if I had to mention someone, it would be Novak Peković. I’ve known him long before joining Mornar and consider him one of my closest friends,” Bulatović remarked.
Mornar currently sits at the bottom of the standings with just one win.
“We’ll keep fighting until the last game. As long as there’s even a theoretical chance of survival, we won’t give up. My contract ends at the season’s conclusion, and it’s too early to discuss my future here. Naturally, we’ll have a conversation at the end of the season, and if an agreement can be reached with management, I would be glad to continue,” Bulatović stated.
The forward envisions a future in the ABA League.
“I believe it’s important for everyone to be realistic. Personally, I see myself as an ABA League player in the years to come, and perhaps one day I might even don the colors of a club competing in the Eurocup. I’m dedicated to working hard and training, and I’ll see where this journey takes me,” the young Mornar player concluded candidly.
