So far, five hearings have been scheduled in the case against Rožajac E. Š., who faces charges of raping his ex-wife and committing acts of domestic or family violence.

This information was conveyed to Vijesti by his defense attorney, Zoran Piperović.

“Out of the five scheduled hearings, two have taken place while three have been postponed. During the first hearing, the defendant E. Š. provided his defense for several hours, and in the subsequent three-hour hearing, the victim A. Đ. gave her testimony. Of the three postponed hearings, one was delayed at the court’s request, another due to the defendant hiring my services as his attorney, and the hearing that was set for today was postponed at the request of the victim, who was scheduled to respond to questions from her legal representatives, myself and my colleague,” Piperović stated.

Vijesti reported today that the trial is currently in the main hearing phase, but this is the only detail available regarding the proceedings from the Podgorica High Court.

“The court’s decision has confirmed the indictment from the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica against E. Š., based on reasonable suspicion that he committed the crime of rape under Article 204, paragraph 1 of Montenegro’s Criminal Code, in conjunction with the act of violence within the family or household as outlined in Article 220, paragraph 1. The case is currently in the main trial phase. According to Article 314 of the Criminal Procedure Code, this trial is not open to the public, and sharing any details about a closed proceeding would contravene the obligation to maintain confidentiality. Therefore, we cannot provide further details,” stated Ivana Vukmirović, the court’s public relations adviser, in response to inquiries from “Vijesti”.

“Vijesti” requested information from the court regarding the current stage of the case against E. Š. and the number of hearings that have occurred thus far, since details on the public trial schedule are unavailable.
