“Vučice” have finally clinched the championship title in the WABA League after suffering through four final defeats. The Buducnost Bemaks basketball team triumphed in the final held in Celje against Cinkarna with a score of 71:64 (22:23, 18:10, 9:15, 22:16).
Displaying remarkable heroism, the team faced off against the reigning champions, who were the favorites in a packed Celje arena. The difference in rebounds (37:28) clearly highlights the intensity and motivation with which Petar Stojanović’s squad played.
The team managed to maintain their composure and focus despite several referee errors favoring the home side, particularly after Tess Amundsen sank a three-pointer to bring the score to 66:62, successfully defending against Celje’s subsequent assault.
The home team attempted a rough approach, but the “wolves” demonstrated that neither their tactics nor the cheers of 1,000 home fans could deter them from their pursuit of the title.
Now they have four championship titles, having lost five finals previously.
Zorana Radonjić stood out as the leading scorer with 21 points, followed by Amundsen with 14, Jovana Savković with 13, and Jelena Bulajić added 11 points, contributing to this significant and surprising victory.
For the losing team, Leticia Sopares scored 17 points and Lea Bartelme contributed 14.
In the third-place match featuring two Bulgarian teams, Montana emerged victorious over Beroe with a final score of 73:63.
