Montenegro Handball Team Defeated by Portugal

The women’s handball team of Montenegro has qualified for the main round of the World Championship for players under 20 in North Macedonia, finishing second in their group.
After winning against Uzbekistan and Guinea, the Montenegrin team faced a setback, losing to Portugal 34:31 in Skopje in a match for first place.
The match showcased a fierce contest in North Macedonia’s capital, with Montenegro boasting a three-goal lead multiple times in the first half, the last instance being 17:14 in the 28th minute.
However, Portugal rallied back, leveling the score at 17:17 by the end of the first half with three consecutive goals.
Montenegro regained the lead for the final time in the 34th minute when Vujadinović scored to make it 19:18, and the last tie occurred in the 43rd minute when Marković netted to bring the score to 23:23.
The final moments of the game were dominated by Portugal, who secured first place in the group and positioned themselves favorably for the quarter-finals.
On the Montenegrin side, Jelena Vukčević stood out as the top scorer with ten goals, while Ivana Vujadinović and Nikolina Marković contributed five goals each.
Additionally, Marija Marsenić made a notable impact with 13 saves.
In the main round, Montenegro will face the two top teams from Group H, with Iceland currently leading with four points, while North Macedonia and Angola will compete for the second spot in a direct match.
