Plotters of a Constitutional Coup Persist in Undermining Montenegro’s Democratic Progress

The potential for a respected representative of the media community to fill a position on the Council of the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU), someone whose professional ethics would prevent any political interference in this crucial regulatory body of the electronic media market, has been thwarted. The President of the Parliament, in a manner reminiscent of his authoritarian counterpart in Belgrade, has annulled the Public Call for the election of a Council member. This action came at the behest of a pro-government NGO, as announced by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

“The severity of the current government’s political decline is highlighted by the fact that no member of the ruling coalition, including those from Prime Minister’s PES, is willing to challenge the latest instance of Mandić’s political oppression. To worsen the situation, those who position themselves as pro-European within the government remain silent, fully aware that the European Commission has previously urged expedient completion of the Council’s composition, underscoring the significance of this process for Montenegro’s advancement toward EU membership. Additionally, while the destructive political virus continues to wreak havoc on Montenegrin society and state, Spajić and his accomplices, who introduced this virus into Montenegro’s political framework, are attempting to distract alarmed domestic and international audiences with trivial songs, mundane humor, and foolish jokes,” the DPS statement articulates.

The party, along with the united opposition and a growing number of our citizens, declares an intention to provide robust resistance against efforts to undermine Montenegro’s sovereignty and hinder its path to becoming the first EU member state.
