Following Inter’s victory over Monaco (3:2) and Napoli’s win against Fiorentina (2:1), Atalanta made a powerful statement tonight.
The Bergamo side dominated Juventus away from home during the 28th round of Serie A, securing a 4:0 victory and positioning themselves three points behind the “Neroazzurri” and two behind Napoli. Atalanta is set to face Inter at home in the next round.
The performance by the “Goddess” was impeccable, contrasting sharply with Juventus’s disappointing display – the Turin team failed to score for the first time in 14 consecutive Serie A matches. The last time Juventus went without a goal was on November 23 of last year, when they tied 0:0 with Milan.
Juventus still faces a battle to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, currently perched in fourth place, just two points ahead of Lazio and Bologna.
Atalanta opened the scoring after half an hour with Retegi converting a penalty kick. By the end of the first half, the visitors had a few opportunities to extend their lead – Lukman struck the post, and Di Gregorio denied an Atalanta player from scoring.
However, just as the second half began, De Ron doubled the visitors’ advantage, signaling the collapse of Juventus.
In the 66th minute, a combination between Kolašinac and Zakpakosta led to the third goal. Lukman wrapped up the scoring in the 77th minute.
Juve’s best opportunity came in the 89th minute when McKennie headed the ball, but Carnesecchi made an impressive save.
