With an impressive win over Juventus and an outstanding display in Turin, Atalanta made a bold statement – the team from Bergamo is determined to compete for the Scudetto until the very end.

“The Goddess” dominated Juventus last night, celebrating a 4:0 victory at “Allianz Stadium” in Turin, marking Juventus’ most significant home defeat in Serie A since 1967. On October 22, 1967, the “Black and Whites” faced a similar 4:0 loss to their city rivals, Torino.

The Bergamo team outperformed their opponents across all aspects of the game, taking an early lead with Retegi’s goal in the first half, followed by contributions from De Ron, Zappacosta, and Lukman. Juventus only managed their first shot on target in the closing minutes, which was saved by Carnesecchi against Mekeni.

With this win, Atalanta is now just three points behind Inter, whom they will host next weekend. Napoli leads by two points ahead of them.

“If you have enough belief, anything can become achievable. This is football – winning and losing are fundamental to the sport. For many, it seemed unimaginable that we would win, but we executed a perfect game,” said Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

A particularly notable moment occurred in the 80th minute when Samardžić replaced Lukman. Gasperini embraced the scorer of the fourth goal, despite their recent tensions. It’s worth noting that the Atalanta coach had publicly criticized Lukman after he missed a penalty during the second leg of the Champions League play-offs against Club Brugge.

“Lukman has transformed into a fantastic player by contributing more to the team. Previously, he focused on individual performances. He has been instrumental in Atalanta’s success, but Atalanta has also played a crucial role in his growth,” Gasperini remarked.

After the match, Gasperini humorously inquired if he could hug Lukman, asking him to smile. The two shared a hug, signaling that their earlier conflicts had been resolved.

Another standout performer from the match, alongside Lukman, was Mateo Retegi. The Atalanta player found the net once again, maintaining his chase for the Golden Boot. He has now scored 22 goals in Serie A, with only Mohamed Salah ahead of him with 27 goals in the Premier League. Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane are tied for third place with 21 goals each in La Liga and the Bundesliga, respectively.

Ciro Immobile, a former Lazio player, was the last Serie A player to win the Golden Boot, scoring 36 goals in the 2020/21 season.

In the race for the top scorer in Serie A, Retegi is followed by Ken with 15 goals, and both Lukman and Marcus Thuram with 13 goals each.

Next up for Atalanta is a clash against Inter on Sunday at 20:45. “The Goddess” is poised for battle, and should they triumph over the reigning champions, the sky will be the limit.
