Mainl-Reisinger: Austria Considers Montenegro as the Next EU Member

Montenegro and Austria maintain a friendly relationship, dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of their bilateral ties, as confirmed during a recent telephone conversation between Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ervin Ibrahimović, and Austria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Beate Mainl-Reisinger.

The dialogue addressed various current matters from the bilateral agenda, highlighting a shared interest in further boosting economic collaboration and intensifying interactions across all sectors of mutual concern.

Special emphasis was placed on Montenegro’s European Union accession journey. Minister Ibrahimović expressed appreciation for Austria’s unwavering political and expert support, underlining its significant role in promoting the activities of the “Friends of the Western Balkans” group.

Minister Mainl-Reisinger articulated Austria’s perspective that Montenegro should be the next country to join the European Union. She commended the nation’s commitment and progress in reform implementation, asserting that Montenegro can rely on Austria’s comprehensive backing as it advances in the EU accession process.

The two ministers also exchanged insights regarding contemporary regional and global challenges, expressing their willingness to maintain dialogue at all levels to further strengthen their interstate relations.
