The Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) stated that the views expressed in the recordings aired last night on pro-government Serbian television do not reflect “the positions or plans of the PSG” and “certainly not their stance on the student protests and their demands.”

According to the statement, the televised recordings “feature a secretly recorded discussion involving several younger members of the Novi Sad PSG board along with representatives from various activist groups.”

“Recognizing that at this moment other issues are secondary, including the circumstances under which the conversation was recorded, we wish to apologize to the citizens for the careless remarks made and assure that no PSG member will, through any gesture or action on Saturday, disrupt the protest’s overall demeanor, which should be peaceful and respectful,” the statement continued.

The program, co-produced by Happy TV, TV Prva, Infomer TV, Studio B, and TV Pink, aired footage that Pink’s website alleges was filmed within the Novi Sad PSG board premises, suggesting that attendees were strategizing on how to promote the notion of a transitional government in Belgrade while inciting violence.

The students participating in the blockade announced plans for a protest at the Serbian Parliament on Saturday, March 15th, urging citizens to join them. Several state officials have warned of potential clashes and violence occurring on that day.
