Young Water Polo Players Clinch Bronze at World Championship
Montenegro’s U18 national water polo team has added another medal to their collection by securing bronze at the World Championship.
Under the guidance of Miodrag Mirović, the team triumphed over Italy with a close score of 12:11.
The Montenegrin squad showcased their strength throughout the match, even leading by five goals twice in the third quarter, with scores of 9:4 and 11:6.
Yet, the game brought its share of tension. With just three and a half minutes remaining, Italy made a comeback with a 4:0 run, narrowing the score to 11:10. Strahinja Gojković then recovered a rebound after hitting the crossbar and scored to extend the lead.
Goalkeeper Marko Pejović further lifted the team’s spirits with a crucial saved penalty, preserving a two-goal advantage. Italy managed to score once more, bringing the final to a nail-biting conclusion just 21 seconds before the clock ran out.
Gojković led the scoring sheet with four goals, while Srđan Janović and Danilo Stupar contributed with two goals each. Ognjen Moračanin, Ivan Marković, Andrija Roganović, and Tim Perov each added one goal.
The championship title was claimed by Hungary, which defeated Serbia with a score of 12:10 in the final match.
