According to the Nova.rs portal, a student from Loznica, who was en route to Belgrade, was attacked this morning in Obrenovac.

The students traveling from Loznica to Belgrade stayed overnight in Obrenovac, and the incident took place this morning while they were walking to their designated meeting point.

An eyewitness recounted, “The girl was leading the group, holding a flag. There were no signs of any trouble. We were displaying Serbian flags and banners reading ‘We Will Not Give Up Jadar.’ Suddenly, an older man rushed up, grabbed her by the neck, and began to choke her. A boy quickly intervened and pulled the assailant away.”

To avoid further disturbances, pedestrians have been instructed to keep their distance from the aggressor.

The police promptly identified the attacker and collected statements from witnesses of the incident.

Students, who have been staging protests at various faculties across Serbia for the past three and a half months, have announced a demonstration in front of the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade scheduled for March 15th.

Among their demands, the students are calling for both criminal and political accountability for the deaths of 15 people resulting from the collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, 2024. Their cause has garnered support from some educators, lawyers, farmers, and cultural workers who have halted their classes.

Significant protests and occupations have been held thus far in Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Niš.

In the meantime, a group identifying itself as “Students 2.0” has been camped in Belgrade’s Pionirski Park since March 6. They refer to themselves as “students who want to learn” and are advocating for an end to the blockades.
