The Capital City’s Decision Signals Vital Support for Survival

The decision by the capital city to assume the founding rights of ŽRK Budućnost marks a crucial lifeline for the most decorated Montenegrin club, which was on the verge of closure due to severe financial difficulties, as announced by Budućnost yesterday.

During the assembly session yesterday, the Assembly of the Capital City voted overwhelmingly in favor of the decision (34 votes for, one against, one abstention), establishing the necessary conditions for Budućnost to continue its operations. This includes competing as the first team in the EHF Champions League and supporting over 300 girls in junior categories who aspire to carve out new chapters in the legacy of the two-time European champions.

The club extended its heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Olivera Injac, President of the Capital City Assembly Jelena Borovinić Bojović, and particularly highlighted the efforts of Luka Rakčević, the Deputy Mayor, whose unwavering optimism from the outset helped create the conditions necessary for Budućnost’s survival and participation in the upcoming EHF Champions League season.

Buducnost also expressed appreciation to all the councilors who, during the session, recognized the significance of the initiative to save the club, using arguments and facts from its illustrious past, which aided in the successful passage of the decision.

“We extend our gratitude to the ‘Barbarians’ for their public support towards the club’s survival alongside the Buducnost football team! We are optimistic about their backing in the new Champions League season. Additionally, heartfelt thanks to all the legends, former players, and friends of the club who have shown concern for Buducnost’s future, reaffirming that the color blue remains in their hearts! With 75 years of glorious history and 75 trophies, including six European titles, we look forward to the future, eager to maintain our status as Montenegro’s premier sports brand on the international stage,” Budućnost declared.
