The Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) expressed satisfaction with the discussions held at the Faculty of Economics regarding the Analysis of Prices and Operations of Trade Enterprises in Montenegro, reaffirming that the Montenegrin economy—particularly trade chains—are not a driving force behind inflation.

“We reiterate that the unanimous conclusion drawn by representatives from both the Government and the academic community during yesterday’s meeting supports our stance that an economic boycott is futile and that the sources of inflation lie elsewhere,” the statement emphasized.

In light of this pressing issue, last week, the Montenegrin economy called for an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to promptly address the negative trends in the business environment and to foster conditions conducive to economic growth and sustainability.

“We are hopeful, and the business community anticipates, that this meeting will occur soon, especially since it has been reaffirmed that trade is not the catalyst for inflation, requiring further exploration of its underlying causes,” the statement added.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Montenegro pointed out that unwarranted boycotts and the targeting of retail chains not only adversely affect these businesses but also impact everyone in the supply chain: including producers—mainly local ones—distributors, importers, employees, and ultimately, the state.

A panel discussion took place on Wednesday, where Government representatives and the Faculty of Economics delved into the analysis conducted for the Chamber of Commerce by a group of professors from the Faculty of Economics.
