Montenegro has gained a new handball club, which will be under the leadership of a well-known sports figure…

The Kotor handball club was established today in the “ancient city,” with Vasko Ševaljević, the longtime captain of the Montenegrin national team, being elected as the first president at the Founding Assembly.

“This is the outcome of a recent agreement between Municipality of Kotor President, Vladimir Jokić, and renowned Montenegrin athlete Vasko Ševaljević,” the Municipality of Kotor announced.

They highlighted that the club was established to revitalize sports in Kotor and to revive the activities of former sports teams.

“With the aim of making a significant contribution to the revival of handball, a sport with deep roots in the ancient city, the Municipality of Kotor will provide both financial and logistical support to the newly established club,” they stated in their announcement.

The workings of RK Kotor will commence with the establishment of teams for both girls and boys.

“The primary goal of the club is to popularize this sport in Kotor,” they emphasized.

It was disclosed that the founders of the club are Radovan Vujović, Miroslav Vukičević, Nikola Pajović, Aljoša Drašković, Radovan Kapetanović, Denis Đešević, Mladen Baštrica, Branko Pavićević, Nikola Ljesar, Damir Đuranović, Nikola Lakićević, Vasko Ševaljević, Nemanja Radulović, and Petar Radunović.

Born in Kotor, Vasko Ševaljević has represented numerous clubs throughout his career, spanning from Montenegro (Lovćen) to teams in Spain, Germany, France, North Macedonia, Sweden, and Qatar.

He has participated in three European championships and two World Cups with the “lions,” with his match against Sweden in the qualification for the 2013 World Cup being particularly memorable.
