Dušan Mandić: Europe’s Finest
Today, Dušan Mandić was honored as the top wind polo player in Europe for 2024.
According to the Serbian Water Polo Federation, Mandić secured 32.7 percent of the votes in the European Swimming election, with Spaniard Alvaro Granados following closely at 22.7 percent.
Hungarian goalkeeper Soma Vogel came in third with 21.8 percent, Croatian goalkeeper Marko Nijač earned fourth place with 12.7 percent, and his teammate Loren Fatović rounded out the top five with 9.9 percent of the votes.
At the conclusion of the previous year, Mandić was also recognized as the best water polo player globally. He joins the ranks of three other Serbian players who have received the title of best water polo player in Europe: Vanja Udovičić, Filip Filipović, and Duško Pijetlović.
The European Swimming organization emphasized Mandić’s outstanding achievements from last season in their announcement. During the Olympic Games, where he proudly carried the flag alongside volleyball player Maja Ognjenović, Mandić not only won gold but also emerged as the tournament’s top scorer and player in Paris. This marked his fourth Olympic medal and third gold medal.
While playing for Ferencvaros, he achieved the Hungarian double, clinched the Champions League, and secured the European Super Cup.
In the statement, it was noted that “Mandić’s spectacular performances have elevated him to the status of a national hero in Serbia, and his remarkable talent has been recognized on a global level, as he was recently named the world’s best water polo player in 2024.”
