Ophthalmologists at the Clinical Center (KCCG) are set to offer free eye pressure screenings on Thursday without requiring a referral or an appointment, in recognition of World Glaucoma Week, as announced by the health institution.
The KCCG has stated that these eye pressure assessments will take place on Thursday, from 11 am to 1 pm, at the reception in front of the Ophthalmology Clinic.
“This screening is aimed at the at-risk population aged 40 and above, particularly those with a family history of the condition,” the KCCG noted.
They have indicated that the number of screenings is limited to the first 30 individuals who register on Wednesday between 8 am and 10 am by calling the following numbers: 313 020 412 or 265 123 456.
The announcement highlights that the second Sunday in March is recognized globally as World Glaucoma Week.
It further explains that glaucoma, which often shows no symptoms and gradually progresses, is referred to as the “Silent Thief of Sight.”
The KCCG cautioned that glaucoma is among the leading causes of blindness worldwide and is frequently diagnosed inadvertently during routine examinations when the condition is already advanced, resulting in irreversible vision loss.
“Therefore, timely diagnosis is crucial for slowing the progression of the disease through medication or surgery,” the KCCG stressed.
