Jakov Milatovic: “Montenegro to Become the 28th Member of the European Union” – News
According to Jakov Milatović, the President of Montenegro, the country is set to become the 28th member of the European Union (EU).
“The strategic partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans is increasingly vital. Montenegro aims to seize the opportunity for EU membership by 2028,” Milatović stated during a lecture at the College of Europe in Natolin, as reported by Avaz during his working visit to Poland.
The Montenegrin president underscored that Montenegro is recognized as the most advanced among the ten countries vying for EU membership.
“Our strategic objective is to conclude negotiations by the end of 2026 and attain EU membership by 2028. This is an ambitious yet attainable plan,” Milatović added.
“Montenegro stands out among candidate countries for five key reasons. We have opened 33 chapters in our EU negotiations and successfully addressed our external and security policies. Our economy is more developed than that of other candidate nations, and we already utilize the euro. While we face a challenge with Croatia, we have no significant issues with our other neighbors. Additionally, we have been a NATO member since 2017, contributing to the stability of the Western Balkans.”
