The former president of the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro (VPSCG), Đuro Marić, has stepped down from his role.

Marić held the presidency since May 2021 and mentioned in his statement that his resignation is due to personal reasons.

The announcement of Marić’s resignation was made during today’s meeting of the VPSCG Board of Directors.

“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the U19 national team on their silver medal achievement at the European Championship. They exemplify that Montenegrin water polo continues to be a strong ambassador for our country’s sports on the international stage,” stated Marić.

He expressed that it was a tremendous honor to serve as president of the VPSCG on two separate occasions.

“Even though my term was set to end in a year and a half, I am resigning for personal reasons, with the genuine hope that the next president and their team will further advance the sports of water polo and swimming in Montenegro and establish conditions for improved performance and the pursuit of new trophies. I wish the new leadership of the Association great success in their endeavors, particularly with the ongoing project to host the European Senior Championship in Podgorica in 2028. I extend my gratitude to all VPSCG staff, the former coach and his team, the coaches of the national water polo and swimming squads, the Board of Directors of VPSCG, our sponsors, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, local government bodies that have supported us, and the Government of Montenegro,” said Marić.
