The Government Faces Serious Political Repercussions for Ignoring Legal Guidelines on Budva Municipal Assembly Scheduling

The President of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and one of the leaders of the European Alliance, Ivan Vujović, reminded the Government that the legal deadline for scheduling a session of the Budva Municipal Assembly expires on Monday.

He warned the Government “that they will be responsible for severe political consequences if they ignore the law and continue, at the behest of Andrija Mandić, to carry out legal violence related to the situation in Budva.”

“Everything that the ruling parties have done so far when they used violence to prevent the constitution of the Budva parliament, or everything that they have not done in terms of scheduling the session, and they had to because they had a proper proposal from the relevant Ministry, points to suspicion that the Government, as a statement of this and such a majority, will continue with the actions that are introducing Montenegro into a political state of emergency. Therefore, we once again warn them in good faith not to do so, to abide by the Constitution and the law, as well as the need to express the will of the citizens of Budva, whatever it may be, at the session of the Municipal Assembly,” said Vujović.

He added that any other scenario would be “unfortunately, not a precedent, but a continuation, or rather, a continuation of similar behavior that we had the opportunity to see in Šavnik, Andrijevica and Kotor, when the parliamentary majority, through both physical and legal violence, prevented the will of councilors or citizens in those municipalities from being expressed.”

“Even if we skip Podgorica, when an opposition structure, literally overnight, changed its approach and sided with the ruling parties that it had been speaking the worst about until then, thus playing with the will of the citizens – there are too many examples of the thuggery of the so-called 10th of August. We know that their pattern is – if we cannot form a government, we will prevent, without choosing any means, all others who can, just as we know that this is an introduction to complete anarchy and the complete collapse of the constitutional and political system in which 15, 20 or XNUMX thugs should determine who can and who cannot be in power. We know all this, but they must also know that the continuation of this behavior leads to a complete paralysis of political life that applies not only to the state, but also to local parliaments,” said Vujović.
