The Montenegrin economy is being driven toward a collapse in its tourism sector, asserted Nikola Milović, an MP from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

He reacted to a recent article in “Vijesti,” highlighting alarming statistics from the Central Bank and Monstat concerning the downturn in tourism and the increasing trade deficit, indicating that the tourism industry is facing a decline for the first time in two decades.

“It is now evident to everyone that this is not simply a case of negligence on the part of the ruling majority, but rather a malicious intent to undermine the economic foundation of Montenegro. Administrative control over the economy does not create new value, but instead erodes what already exists. The increase in VAT in the tourism sector signifies a self-destructive move! The current government’s populist consumer model is steering the Montenegrin economy toward failure as a tourist hub. From scaring away investors like Aman, closing Sveti Stefan, discontinuing Montenegro Airlines, to a catastrophic approach to taxation and the erosion of Montenegro’s tourism identity—enough is enough,” Milović expressed on Iks.
