EBRD Seeks to Back Key Projects in Montenegro

EBRD seeks to enhance investments in Montenegro

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić held a meeting with Matteo Patrone, the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in Podgorica.

The core focus of their discussions revolved around the execution of major projects, with EBRD representatives indicating their willingness to actively contribute to the Government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing transportation connectivity, fostering the energy and tourism sectors, and promoting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Vice President Patrone noted that the evident outcomes of the reform efforts on Montenegro’s journey towards EU accession serve as a compelling incentive for the EBRD to escalate its investment activities in the country.

Prime Minister Spajić pointed out that the completion of the second section of the highway will facilitate more balanced development, reinvigorating the northeastern region of the country—a perspective echoed by the EBRD.

We fully recognize the strategic significance of linking the northeastern area to the rest of Montenegro, which is why we endorse these projects. You can rely on us to maintain support for all other transportation initiatives as well, Patrone stated.

In addition to enhanced connectivity, further economic growth is anticipated through the refurbishment of the railway, the advancement of the Port of Bar, and the enlargement of airport facilities, Prime Minister Spajić emphasized.

He also showcased avenues for collaboration in energy, tourism, and agriculture, pointing out the considerable development potential for small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in the northern region of the country.

It was ultimately agreed that supporting SMEs remains a top priority for the EBRD in the current landscape.
