Bellingham Faces Suspension for Referee Insult
What Jude Bellingham communicated to referee José Munuera during Real Madrid’s match against Osasuna was sufficient for the Spanish Football Federation to impose a suspension on the English midfielder.
Whether it was “Go…and” or “f…and,” it remains inconsequential—Bellingham will be sidelined for the next two matches following the rejection of the “Royal Club”‘s appeal.
Bellingham was issued a straight red card for allegedly insulting the referee last weekend, a decision that sparked public controversy; however, the Federation stood firm against the pressure exerted by the Madrid club in recent days.
“The referee doesn’t have a strong command of English. He was misled in translation; otherwise, he wouldn’t have issued a red card to Jud. What he stated was not an insult,” commented Real coach Carlo Ancelotti after the draw in Pamplona.
Bellingham will be unavailable for La Liga matches against Girona and Betis.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder will also miss the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atletico Madrid after accumulating his third yellow card of the season in the European competition playoffs.
