In May of last year, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. He successfully defended three of his titles in December during a rematch with British fighter Tyson Fury.

However, he lost one belt—the IBF—because he did not defend it within the required timeframe, leading to it being awarded to mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois in June.

Now, Usyk is also at risk of losing his WBO title, as the organization has mandated that he defend it against New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Nonetheless, Usyk is currently in talks with Dubois’ camp for another bout.

Usyk previously overcame Dubois for the IBF title in 2023, and reports from British media suggest that both camps are discussing a potential rematch, likely to be held at Wembley in London.

Meanwhile, the WBO has instructed Usyk and Parker’s team to start negotiations, warning that if no agreement is reached in 30 days, they will open bids for the bout against a challenger.

Dubois had been scheduled to face Parker in Saudi Arabia last month but had to withdraw due to illness. This fight was set to be a highlight event in Riyadh, where Dmitry Bivol sought vengeance against Artur Beterbiev, solidifying his status in the light heavyweight division.

Parker, a former WBO champion, claimed the belt in December 2016 by defeating Andy Ruiz but lost it to Anthony Joshua 15 months later.
