The N. family from Bijelo Polje staged a protest today in front of the Ministry of Justice in the heart of Podgorica, demanding an investigation into various attacks directed at them and their property. They assert that these incidents led to extreme stress for HN, who recently injured a neighbor’s dog.
HN is accused of injuring the neighbor’s dog in the village of Prijelozi near Bijelo Polje roughly ten days ago.
Yesterday, she expressed her realization that her actions were unjustifiable. “I know I shouldn’t have acted this way,” she said.
“My four-year-old daughter cannot play outside; she wakes up in fear every night. As a mother, I was driven by instinct, and I regret my actions. For the sake of the children, if needed, I will run a shelter and look after the dogs. I cannot live without my children,” HN stated during the protest.
Her family had protested outside the Ministry of Internal Affairs the day before.
The family’s attorney, lawyer Marina Vlahović, emphasized that while no act of violence against animals can be justified, HN’s situation should be considered in a broader context to understand the factors leading to her actions of injuring the neighbor’s dog.
“The HN family is facing significant difficulties and is seeking a just resolution to this matter. They express profound remorse for their actions and are willing to assist in ensuring that any remaining dogs in deplorable conditions receive proper care,” Vlahović noted.
According to the Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Administration, the injuries sustained by the dog, allegedly caused by HN, require close monitoring of the animal’s health; hence, the dog has been sent for further assessment in Podgorica.
The Administration, under Vladimir Đaković, also mentioned that the dog has been temporarily relocated to the animal shelter of the NGO “Kuća životinja,” and will be returned to its owner once it recovers. Additionally, the Administration announced it will cover the costs of the dog’s medical treatment.
HN is facing charges that carry a penalty of a fine or up to two years of imprisonment.
