The masks have come off – the hopefuls of PES in Danilovgrad are revealing their true intentions, stated SDP councilor in the Danilovgrad Municipal Assembly (MA) and European Union representative, Drago Šćepanović.
“Only those who harbor intolerance towards others and reject diversity can endorse authors with the political and ideological stances exhibited by Bećir Vuković,” claimed Šćepanović.
The statement from the European Union indicated that during the Danilovgrad Municipal Assembly session, Šćepanović reacted to Nikola Rakočević’s participation in awarding the Thirteenth of July Award to Bećir Vuković.
“You claim the era of court poets is over, yet you lead the commission that awarded top state honors to a court poet from a specific national group—someone who embodies fascist and chauvinistic views against a significant portion of Montenegro’s populace,” said Šćepanović.
Furthermore, the statement noted that Šćepanović emphasized that freedom of expression should not be an excuse to propagate hate and intolerance.
“Your freedom and my freedom end where another’s begins. You can support fascist ideologies privately, and that’s your right—but when that spills out into public view, it poses a severe problem as it directly threatens others’ rights,” Šćepanović asserted.
In his view, 21st-century fascism doesn’t march in uniform but rather spreads behind smiles, suits, and ties.
“Because it is harder to detect, it is the duty of all who stand for anti-fascist values to identify it clearly and boldly—without compromise or delay,” concluded Šćepanović.
