More Detained at Blockades Across Serbia: Vučević Reports 3,681 Individuals Disrupting Traffic

Students and citizens initiated the “Total Blockade of Serbia” this morning, halting traffic at multiple intersections throughout Belgrade.

Miloš Vučević, president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), reported that 3,681 individuals participated in the road blockades across Serbia this morning.

“So many have disrupted the lives of 6.5 million residents of Serbia. It seems someone enjoys bothering their neighbors and fellow citizens,” Vučević told Pink television, according to Beta.

He noted that it is now clear that a color revolution is underway.

“This reflects their stance towards the citizens, not towards the regime, Aleksandar Vučić, or any party. Their intention is to persist until Petrovdan, as they announced on Vidovdan,” said Vučević, who also serves as an advisor to the Serbian President for regional issues.

Vučević added that “anyone violating the laws will face prosecution.”

“When they assault the police, they assault the state. They are not annoyed by the police but by the defense of constitutional order. No one is above the state, and those breaking the law will be prosecuted,” Vučević stated.

According to Beta, citizens have gathered outside several police stations in Belgrade where blockade participants have been detained.

N1 reports that numerous citizens and students protested outside the New Belgrade Police Department in response to the arrest of six individuals near the Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

Reports indicate that two students from the Faculty of Arts, one assistant, one employee from the faculty, along with two residents from nearby areas, were detained. Citizens were chanting, “Let them all go.”

As noted by a Beta agency reporter, several individuals were detained on March 27th Street, which has already been blocked three times today.

Several cameras captured the arrests made by the police while the crowd reacted with disapproval.

Near the Faculty of Law, police vehicles and officers are stationed on both sides of King Aleksandra Boulevard to prevent citizens from blocking traffic again.

The blockades at three significant intersections in Novi Sad have concluded, as reported by an N1 journalist. The intersections at the City Transport Company, Mercator, and the junction of Temerinska and Partizanska streets were previously obstructed.

At least five individuals were detained on Youth Brigade Street in New Belgrade, near the Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

Civic groups reported that arrests included three FDU students, one faculty employee, and one resident of nearby Block 37.

An operation to detain citizens is underway near the “Staklenac” shopping center in downtown Belgrade, according to an N1 reporter.

At least two people were arrested after citizens blocked the intersection near the Military Hall.

Police apprehended FDU professor Stevan Filipović outside the Majke Jevrosime police station.

In Smederevo, a taxi driver drove into pedestrians while they crossed at a pedestrian walkway, incidents involving one citizen being carried on the hood for approximately 200 meters, as reported by an N1 correspondent.

Belgrade’s tram and trolleybus services have been suspended due to the blockades, with all vehicles relocated to garages until conditions allow for their return to service, GSP informed Tanjug.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that police have permitted gatherings at certain locations in Belgrade that do not significantly impact traffic, emphasizing they only act with “minimum force” where necessary, according to N1.

A Beta agency reporter noted that several hundred students and citizens, led by the Stari Grad citizens’ assembly, gathered at Republic Square after police repeatedly disrupted their blockades in the city center.

They obstructed streets surrounding Republic Square and the Green Wreath, as well as the intersection of Makedonska and Dečanska Streets.

Across from Republic Square, numerous Gendarmerie members, police cars, and vehicles are present.

On Republic Square, several individuals in City Cleaning uniforms were seen coating benches with a liquid, alongside a white van with unmarked company identifiers, leading to questions regarding their affiliation, as reported by Beta.

Citizens also blocked corners at Cvijićeva and 29 November, along with various intersections in Zemun.

Blockages occurred at the intersections of Omladinskih brigada and Milutin Milankovića, as well as Gandijeva and Jurija Gagarina in New Belgrade.

Streets near the Temple of Saint Sava and the Blue Bridge in Konjarnik have also been obstructed.

Citizens and students who blocked the intersection near the Faculty of Law in Belgrade dispersed around 7:30 a.m. when police arrived in riot gear.

Police removed metal barriers from the roadway to restore traffic but maintained a substantial presence on both sides of the intersection.

Those gathered retreated to the area in front of the Law Faculty, noisy and vocal towards the police presence.

Law Faculty students reported that their colleague had been arrested outside the building.

In Vidikovac, citizens responded to a students’ call for a general blockade, and the Intervention Unit has begun detaining individuals.

The blockade grew in Vidikovac, with citizens frequently changing meeting spots, according to the Move-Change movement.

The intervention unit has been seen in this part of the city, with footage on social media showing officers dragging and detaining a civilian, as per N1 reports.

Media sources reported blocked streets in Novi Sad and Niš.

A woman in Niš attempted to pass through a blockade but was stopped and removed from her vehicle by police.

Significant police presence has been noted in Niš, ensuring the integrity of the blocked intersections, as reported by N1. To date, no police action has been taken regarding the blockades there.

In Novi Sad, gathered citizens informed an N1 reporter of three detentions.

At the students’ call for a blockade this morning at 7 a.m., citizens of Kragujevac assembled at the intersection by the Zastava skyscraper, beginning a series of pedestrian crossings that disrupted traffic, according to Beta.

Initially crossing at the Concrete Pedestrian Bridge, they then moved to the crossing at the “Balkan” tavern, and subsequently at “Ured” (Office).

Previously, police checked the IDs of individuals at the intersection near the Zastava skyscraper in Kragujevac.

One citizen was detained for refusing to show their ID card to police.

The students in the blockade declared the intention for a “Total Blockade of Serbia” in response to allegations of police brutality.

Citizens and academics have been organizing daily, prolonged street blockades throughout Serbia since June 29th.

Their demands include early parliamentary elections, the eviction of the camp from Pionirski Park where students opposing the blockades have been residing for months, and the release of students detained during the Vidovdan protest in Belgrade.
