Đuro Radović demonstrated that the Montenegrin water polo team could live up to their reputation as favorites in their opening match against Georgia at the World Cup tournament in Podgorica.
The game turned out to be tougher than anticipated, with Radović scoring in the last eight seconds to secure a narrow 13:12 victory.
“This has been one of the most challenging games for me, as I haven’t been in the pool for quite a while. It feels amazing to be back with the teammates I’ve grown up with; I really missed this. Being named player of the game on my comeback is a wonderful feeling, but this victory was a team effort,” Radović remarked.
He had been out of selection for over a year due to a Fina suspension.
“We all put in our best efforts, acknowledging that we made some mistakes, particularly in the first two quarters. However, we became more aggressive in both defense and offense as the game progressed. The key takeaway is our victory,” Radović added.
Georgia proved to be more formidable than the Sharks had anticipated.
“It was a very tough match. We started poorly and kept making mistakes. Now we need to focus on our next game against Spain; I hope for a better outcome. It’s always harder to play against opponents you’re expected to beat, even more so than a derby,” Radović stated.
