“Vučević and Chicago: Contract Buyout This Season More Likely Than Trade”
As Nikola Vučević and his Montenegrin teammates gear up for the upcoming EuroBasket, U.S. media outlets are still focused on his contract with the Chicago Bulls this summer.
According to a report by “Bleacher Report,” it appears unlikely that the Montenegrin basketball player’s trade will happen between the two seasons. A more plausible scenario seems to be a contract buyout while the season is still in progress.
“Everything hinges on market developments and the injury situation. There has been little interest in trading Vučević for quite some time,” stated Jake Fisher from the aforementioned media source.
Despite being 35 years old and having 14 seasons in the NBA, our center has demonstrated that he can still perform at a high level. In 73 games for the Bulls, he averaged 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, shooting 53% from the field and 40.2% from beyond the arc.
Vučević is entering the final year of a three-year, $60 million contract signed with the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 2023. He is expected to earn approximately $21.5 million by the end of the upcoming season.
“Given his substantial salary, teams appear hesitant about a potential trade,” Bleacher Report also noted.
Regardless, Vučević recently mentioned in an interview with “Vijesti” that he intends to remain at the “United Center” for this season.
“There are many rumors circulating, many of which are inaccurate. I don’t concern myself with that. The information I’ve received from the club and my agent indicates that I will stay in Chicago. That’s final,” Vučević emphasized.
He also stated that he is not currently contemplating a return to Europe, expressing his desire to remain in the world’s strongest league for as long as possible.
