The non-governmental organization “Disi,” dedicated to supporting cancer patients and their families, has proposed a new initiative to provide free public transportation and parking for oncology patients in Podgorica.

“Oncology patients not only grapple with their illness but also face numerous additional challenges. Regular therapies, examinations, and check-ups necessitate frequent travel to healthcare facilities. The expenses associated with transportation and parking can place a heavy financial toll on many families, adding to their ongoing medical and living costs. This situation forces our fellow citizens, during one of the most challenging times in their lives, to choose between essential needs and critical medical services,” the initiative highlights.

They suggest implementing free public transportation by issuing special cards for oncology patients, based on documentation from health institutions. Additionally, they propose free parking that could be accessed using special stickers or electronic vehicle registrations, allowing for unlimited parking in public areas close to healthcare facilities and hospitals.

This solution is expected to alleviate the financial burden on patients and their families, enhance access to health services, reduce “stress and worries concerning transportation and parking logistics,” and ultimately improve the quality of life for both patients and their loved ones.

“By adopting these measures, the Capital City would demonstrate its concern for its most vulnerable citizens, embodying solidarity and humanity, while reinforcing the values upheld by contemporary society. We therefore urge that this initiative be given serious consideration and that steps be taken to implement it in the interest of humanity and social welfare,” the initiative concluded, as stated by the NGO.
