The European Alliance, a non-partisan political platform initiated by the Social Democrats (SD), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Liberal Party (LP), along with various non-partisan individuals, independent thinkers, and social activists, is celebrating its first anniversary today, as announced by the movement.
“Our inaugural year empowers us to persist in our mission and to progress toward the objectives that united us – constructing a state defined by knowledge, justice, freedom, and growth,” the statement conveyed.
They noted that the European Union’s potential and willingness to enhance Montenegrin society has been acknowledged by those who matter most – the citizens of Montenegro.
“We have successfully navigated a series of crucial and challenging local elections, from Budva to Nikšić. In every city, we have highlighted non-partisan figures, notable social activists, enthusiastic party members, and true local patriots, who embody a deep-seated and selfless love for their city and country.
“Most importantly, we have demonstrated that Montenegro has a vibrant, emancipatory, and progressive alternative on the political stage, prepared to defend the finest values this country has produced: free will, solidarity, equality, and anti-fascism,” the statement continued.
The significant support they garnered across seven local communities instills hope that the European Union will underpin a new civil, free, and progressive government, which all citizens deserve.
“Instead of concentrating solely on EU accession, economic advancement, and enhancing living standards through modern digital technologies, as well as fostering a society of social justice and robust entrepreneurship—primarily geared towards motivating youth to establish businesses and ready them for ongoing competition in the vast European market—Montenegro is, in the third decade of the 21st century, once again facing the revived specters of the dark 1990s and the perilous resurgence of fascism and chauvinism. We are grappling with a government whose aim is to render the state ineffective or devoid of meaning, substance, and identity,” it stated.
Hence, they asserted that the European Union must remain steadfast.
“We designated the Day of the Fighter as our founding day because we are committed to protecting an anti-fascist, civic, and European Montenegro. We aspire for Montenegro to join the EU as swiftly as possible, maintaining its identity and true European spirit. Our struggle continues until we achieve victory for all of us who understand what Montenegro can and should be,” concluded the European Union’s statement.
