Today, the Montenegrin water polo team will compete in its second match at the World Cup tournament held in Podgorica.
The challenge is formidable as they face Spain, widely regarded as the best team in the world at present. The match is set to begin at 17:30.
In their opening game yesterday, the “Sharks” triumphed over Georgia with a narrow score of 13:12, thanks to a last-minute goal by Đur Radović. Meanwhile, Spain secured an 11:8 victory over Greece after making a strong comeback.
Although Spain is seen as the favorite, Montenegro is determined to surpass its previous performance against the tough Georgian team.
“The Spaniards are the favorites in this group; they turned the match against Greece around easily. We have good energy and will take it one game at a time—we’ll seek to secure a win,” said Sharks’ coach Vladimir Gojković.
Gojković also mentioned that there will be adjustments to the lineup compared to the first match.
“We have 18 players here, and our goal is to ensure everyone gets a chance to showcase their abilities.”
Đuro Radović expressed his belief that the pressure of favoritism will lighten Montenegro’s burden during the match.
“I hope for a better performance against Spain, as it’s challenging to play matches that one is expected to win,” Radović remarked.
After the Montenegro vs. Spain match, followers can watch the Australia vs. Georgia game scheduled for 19:30.
