Contract Signed for €4.8 Million to Enhance Energy Efficiency in Primary Schools in Berane and Bijelo Polje.

Today, Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović signed a contract valued at 4.8 million euros aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in primary schools located in Berane and Bijelo Polje.

Cluster IV encompasses the following schools: “Vuk Karadžić” in Berane, and “Vladislav Ribnikar” and “Risto Ratković” in Bijelo Polje.

The contractor for the project is “Eurozox,” based in Danilovgrad, with a deadline of five months for completing the work from the start date.

Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation Anđela Jakšić Stojanović was also present during the signing of the contract.

“The works included in the contract involve replacing roof coverings and façade hardware, insulating the external walls, and updating the existing lighting to energy-efficient LED systems. Additionally, the lightning rod installation and general consumption systems will be upgraded. The bathrooms will be renovated, including the complete overhaul of water supply and sewage systems, while existing heating systems powered by light fuel oil will be replaced with environmentally-friendly pellet heating systems,” stated the Ministry of Energy and Mining.

The ministry emphasized that these improvements will greatly enhance energy efficiency and environmental sustainability while also boosting the functionality and safety of the facilities.

“This project demonstrates that investing in energy efficiency is essentially investing in our children, which is our most crucial investment for the future. We aim to create an educational environment where Montenegrin students can learn and develop in schools that adhere to the standards of developed countries. We take pride in directing our investments toward northern Montenegro, as balanced regional development and equal living standards for all citizens are among the key priorities of the Government. This is just the beginning; we will continue with similar projects across Montenegro to ensure every child, regardless of their location, enjoys equal opportunities, enhanced educational conditions, and a secure future,” remarked Šahmanović.

Minister Anđela Jakšić Stojanović highlighted the multifaceted benefits of investing in educational facilities: “By improving conditions for students and teachers, we lay the groundwork for better quality education and a healthier learning environment. Energy-efficient schools represent a commitment to both our children’s future and responsible environmental stewardship.”

The PEEPB project is being executed under a partnership among the Government, KfW Bank, and the European Commission, securing a loan of 45 million euros along with nearly 4.8 million euros in grants. The Government will contribute up to 10 million euros of its own funds, showcasing its dedication to applying the highest energy efficiency standards in public buildings, as stated by the Ministry of Energy and Mining.

To date, the project has successfully adapted several schools in Bar, Cetinje, Tuzi, and Kotor. Currently, work is underway for the construction of the “Grabovac” Home for the Elderly in Risan, along with preparations for contracts pertaining to Cluster V in Herceg Novi and Risan. Simultaneously, technical documentation is being developed for state administration and educational facilities in Podgorica and Nikšić, with plans to start preparing documentation for a new student dormitory in Cetinje by the end of the year.
