DNP MP Milan Knežević announced that he would soon initiate a serious effort to address the border dispute with the municipality of Podgorica, particularly concerning the territory that undeniably belongs to Zeta.
During a press conference at the Parliament, he asserted that the stagnation in demarcating the boundary between Zeta and Podgorica is a result of intentional delays.
“Regrettably, some factions within the current Podgorica government seem to hold the view that Zeta ought to function as an extension of Podgorica and Montenegro, with the crucial industrial service zone surrounding KAP claimed for Podgorica,” Knežević remarked.
He emphasized that he would not permit Zeta’s territory to be handed over to wealthy individuals who are already eyeing those lands, positing that this is a primary factor behind the ongoing lack of demarcation.
“If decentralization is genuinely taking root in Montenegro, where coastal regions are managed by their municipalities, then we assert that Zeta should also oversee the airport, the shores of Lake Skadar alongside Bar and Cetinje, the Boljesestra water source, and all concession areas in the Morača riverbed, including Plantaže.”
Knežević pointed out that if anyone assumes the mentality of “what belongs to them is theirs” while viewing “what belongs to us is both theirs and ours,” this concern must be resolved at the state level.
He indicated that he would seek a meeting with the representatives of the Capital City, stating that it is time to demarcate the undisputed area, with the remaining matters being subject to arbitration.
“We will not relinquish any portion of Zeta’s territory, nor do we have the authority to do so,” Knežević stated.
Knežević further mentioned that currently, the youth center cannot be renovated without the approval of the Capital City Assembly due to the unresolved border with Podgorica.
Municipal President Mihailo Asanović highlighted that in the three years since Zeta became an independent municipality, it has not received a single square meter of land from Podgorica.
“We have not been provided anything from Podgorica so far, despite being entitled to 15 percent of the equipment. This situation benefits them,” Asanović remarked.
He stated that if decentralization continues to be upheld, the municipality of Zeta will demand that revenue from visitors to the Skadar Lake National Park, as well as from the Boljesestra spring, Plantaže, and the airport, be allocated to Zeta.
“Should we proceed down this path, the state risks losing control over its resources.”
