“We’re Energized, But Still Striving for Water Polo Excellence”
Montenegrin water polo coach Vladimir Gojković acknowledges that his team had a significant opportunity to reach the final tournament.
Ultimately, their victory over Greece (8:7) in the final round held in Podgorica was of limited importance…
“After a long period, we have formed a real team, and this match was crucial for them to win. The battle was intense, although we made numerous mistakes,” Gojković commented.
The “sharks” faced a tough tournament, securing three wins but suffering two losses.
“It wasn’t perfect, especially in the two matches that seemed easier on paper. Advancing would have greatly boosted our confidence. We can only compete against teams like this under these conditions, as Greece boasts 10 players from the top five clubs globally,” Gojković added.
The future looks promising for the Montenegrin team…
“This team was established last year following the departure of our key player, which made it easier for everyone to engage in the pool. We possess energy, and there’s much work ahead; we are far from reaching the top level consistently. Each player must focus on individual improvement,” Gojković emphasized.
The Greek coach Theodoros Vlahos recognizes that his team was close to elimination.
“For a significant duration, we were in a subordinate position, but we also encountered luck against a motivated and skilled opponent. We performed well throughout the tournament and achieved our goal of reaching the final,” stated the experienced coach.
