The Montenegrin men’s junior basketball team secured fifth place at the European U18 B Division Championship held in Romania.
In the match for the fifth spot, Montenegro triumphed over Hungary with a score of 85:82 in Pitesti.
A lackluster third quarter almost cost the Montenegrin team their victory in this concluding championship match.
Montenegro led at halftime with a score of 43:35, but allowed Hungary to rally in the third quarter, taking a seven-point advantage (63:56) into the final ten minutes.
Hungary was ahead 70:61 before Montenegro surged with a 15:2 run to take a 76:72 lead.
The nail-biting conclusion saw Denil Krnić hit a three-pointer with 17 seconds remaining, extending the lead to 83:80.
Pavle Mugoša sealed the victory with two free throws just two seconds before the clock ran out.
Krnić led the Montenegrin team with 28 points, while Đorđe Gulić and Mugoša contributed by scoring ten points each.
The junior team will continue to compete in the B division next year as well.
