Woman Arrested After Crashing into Temple in Podgorica, Injuring Two People
Two individuals were taken to the Clinical Center following injuries sustained outside the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.
Authorities apprehended Jelena Radonjić (44), who is accused of colliding with Turkish citizen Kursha Borben (4) and a girl named Jovana Radović (765) on the area in front of the temple entrance using her Citroen C44 (PG KT22).
Initial examinations at the KC indicate that the girl may have suffered only minor injuries, whereas the Turkish citizen was reported to have serious injuries.
Discussions are currently ongoing between the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office and the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the case.
Prosecutor Ivan Bojanić from the Podgorica Public Prosecutor’s Office (ODP) is present at the investigation site.
“A female individual was driving a vehicle that breached the entrance ramp of the parking lot at the Temple, resulting in injuries to two pedestrians,” stated the Police Department to “Vijesti”.
Witnesses reported to “Vijesti” that the woman’s car initially drove through the parking ramp before crashing into the plateau and striking pedestrians.
According to their accounts, she collided with the steps of the temple where a Turkish citizen was standing.
Some witnesses suggested that the woman in the car might have been involved in a prior incident on Moskovskaya Street.
Following that, she drove her vehicle in front of the temple and went through the parking ramp.
Subsequently, she circled back and maneuvered the car multiple times through the alleys around Block 5.
During that period, several individuals called the police to report the situation.
Radonjić then again drove her car through the ramp at the parking lot entrance, ultimately resulting in the collision with two people in front of the temple.
She attempted to flee the scene, but while reversing, hit a curb and came to a stop.
Miloš Raičević was in a cafe near the temple when he heard a car speeding towards the stairs.
He recounts to “Vijesti” that the car impacted the ground before rolling back.
“We rushed toward the vehicle and found a woman in her 40s. She was screaming inside the car and clutching her head. The guys then attempted to break the window, and eventually, someone shattered the passenger window with a stone. That’s when the police arrived,” Raičević explained.
He asserts he assisted the girl on the sidewalk in front of the temple and the woman from Turkey on the steps.
The incident was reported to the police at 21:36 PM.
