A rising star in the national volleyball scene, Uroš Konatar hails from Bjelopolje. His dedication and tireless work ethic have made him a recognized talent in the sport. Once on the court, he transforms into a determined competitor and a formidable blocker—a force that only strengthens with experience. His journey, however, hasn’t been without its challenges, requiring months of training, support, and resilience behind each leap and block on the net.

After spending several years with Jedinstvo, Uroš has chosen to transition to Budućnost for the upcoming season. His initial encounter with volleyball began at the “9. maj” elementary school, where he participated in school competitions under the guidance of his teacher, Dragan Mašković. It was this mentor who first encouraged him to join OK Jedinstvo, a club that became like home to him.

Reflecting on his early experiences, Uroš shares, “My debut in volleyball was highlighted by competitions at ‘9. maj’ elementary school, with Dragan Mašković as my guide. He was instrumental in inviting me to train at OK Jedinstvo. Those early memories are rich with training, travel, camaraderie, and even winning the Pioneer League for the first time in Jedinstvo’s history, which fueled my motivation to persevere.”

The support he received at that crucial juncture was invaluable, coming from both a coaching and personal perspective.

“Originally, my key support came from coach Dragan Mašković, followed by Darko Prebiračević, under whom I matured as an athlete. He instilled in me the importance of persistence in sports,” Konatar explains.

His commitment and discipline quickly bore fruit, leading to a prestigious invite to join the Montenegrin national team—a pinnacle moment for any young athlete. For Uroš, this achievement was as much about emotion as it was about sport.

“I embrace every call to represent the national team with enthusiasm and a strong desire to showcase my country positively. As a small nation, each victory we achieve is a milestone in our sports history, particularly in volleyball,” he emphasizes.

While Uroš doesn’t have a singular sports idol, he credits the collective influence of his older teammates and coaches in shaping his approach. Though lacking a specific role model, he was open to guidance that steered him toward his current role on the court: “Honestly, I don’t have one specific sports figure to look up to—my older teammates served as my inspiration. On starting my training, I absorbed the advice of my coach, who identified middle blocker as my ideal position, and that set my path.”

With each game and season, his dedication is evident in his performance—particularly one standout match against Bulgaria at the recent Balkan Championship in July, where he played for the Montenegrin national team.

“The match I cherish the most was our opener at the last Balkan Championship earlier this month, where we defeated the Bulgarian national team, who were the competition’s runners-up,” he declares proudly.

In exciting developments, the young athlete has committed to joining Budućnost, the competition’s runners-up.

“I look forward to achieving as much success as possible with Budućnost through hard work and training with the team,” he comments on this new chapter in his career.

Armed with these experiences, Uroš is just getting started. His objectives are clear and his aspirations are significant, yet he understands that patience is crucial.

“My goals for the upcoming season focus on evolving as a player and winning a medal in senior competitions,” he concludes the interview with determination.
